Why FÊTE?
Well first we have to breakdown what that word even means, and it means a couple of things.
Simply put, a fête is a feast or a festival. The Latin word “festus” meant joyous, which over time evolved in the old French «feste»/«fester» meaning feast/to feast in English. Think “fiesta” if you lean more towards Spanish in your Romance languages.
A feast is a celebration. You have a wedding feast, a birthday feast, a holiday feast. Feasts signify abundance, in the same why I want this publication to address an abundance of ideas. When you say “we feasted,” you are often referring to a ravenous hunger, a desperation to eat. This word aptly describes the mental feast I want this blog to be. When my brain is starved for a place to process my thoughts I want to come here. And when others are starved to learn, this is where I want them to feed that hunger.
But «fête» means more than just “feast.” A fête is also a word used to refer to an outdoor fair. A celebratory gathering full of entertainment. It is also a synonym for a bazaar or marketplace. This seemed an apt distinction for a blog hosted by a fashion fanatic such as myself. From social media to social gatherings it feels as though all of our interactions take place in a marketplace. I think of this blog as my own mental market to sell my wares and celebrate ideas.
Enjoy the party or whatever.
